Friends Walking Group
We are a group of local friends who meet on the first Tuesday of each month for a morning walk starting at 10.00 a.m. I started to lead the group about four years ago and, in that time, we have explored various paths in the areas of Thornbury, Tortworth, Olveston, Littleton-On-Severn, Aust, Almondsbury also along the coast from Portishead to Clevedon. Other areas have included Failand and Clapton villages also urban walks e.g.: Stoke Bishop and Clifton areas.
Here are some examples of walks in the last twelve months or so:
In the autumn we followed some local canals in the Frampton-on-Severn area. We had a trip to Highgrove House to visit Prince Charles' House and gardens. We also went to Teignmouth on the South Coast for a walk and we travelled on the West Somerset Railway for two visits to beautiful Dunster village: one was in the summer for a coastal walk and the other, a December trip, was entitled "Dunster: Candles by Candlelight". A pilgrimage walk took place in May near Salisbury: this included a six mile walk; a pub lunch and a walk through Constable's Water Meadows to the City and the Cathedral - attending Evensong later in the Cathedral. In October, we visited Slimbridge and the bird sanctuary.
Our plan for January to April 2009 is as follows:
Jan 6th: Little Sodbury/Horton area. Meet at Little Sodbury church.
Feb.3rd: Frampton Cotterell. Meet at The Globe. (Leader: David Evans - tel. 01454 613912)
Mar. 3rd; Little Sodbury, E. of fort, then through Old Sodbury and take track N - W. Meet at Little Sodbury church.
Apr. 7th: Old Sodbury, Chipping Sodbury and Little Sodbury End. Meet at The Dog.
