Countryside Group
Olveston Parish Countryside Group
The Countryside Group was formed in 1987 by people with an interest in wildlife in the countryside, in and around the Parish of Olveston.
The group hold regular meetings, usually indoors in winter for talks and presentations, and outdoors in summer for walks and visits to areas of interest in the locality.
From time to time we engage in practical projects, such as being volunteer wardens for the Woodland Trust in Wildacre Wood, over the M48 near Mead Lane, and managing the Old Down Quarry nature reserve. We have produced footpath booklets and parish trails and we are currently involved with a Dormice survey and Glow-worm counts.
We also enjoy social events such as the annual barbecue (it's always in the rain!) and the mulled wine and mince pies on New Year's Day in the quarry.
If you would like to join us, the membership fee is only £5. Please contact any member of the group or the Chair, Lesley Thomas, on 01454 613508.
