In 1991, with road traffic becoming heavier and more horses appearing, a group of riders and land owners devised the Toll Ride scheme around our parishes, called Old Down Toll Rides; since our inaugural meetings were held at Oldown House!

For a very moderate annual fee, riders are able to enjoy our beautiful countryside through the changing seasons in safe conditions ‘Off Road'. The Ride is open during daylight hours on any day of the year, apart from Christmas Day when the routes are closed. The only exception to this was a four months closure due to the Foot & Mouth epidemic.

Although resident riders join the scheme annually we offer the chance for riders to ride on a daily/weekly basis on request.
