Old Down Cricket Club

Old Down Cricket Club

Old Down Cricket Club is one of the oldest in the Bristol area having been formed as long ago as 1843. The Club plays at the picturesque Park Ground behind Olveston Sports & Social Club & Olveston United F C.

The Ground was purchased some 20 years ago, with the help of Olveston Parish Council, Olveston Sports & Social Club and The Sports Council - probably one of the best decisions the Committee has made as improvements to facilities and the playing surface and outfield have continued over the years. The square and club facilities are now highly regarded within the Bristol and District League. In 2009 improved Practice Net facilities were introduced including a two lane all weather Net and a portable net for use on the square - the cost of which was significantly helped by a donation from the Brightside Group.

Old Down CC has been a founder member of the Bristol League system & is still the only club to have achieved a 100% win record in a League season back in 1971.

Two League sides play each Saturday and a Sunday team plays friendlies and enters the National Village Knock Out Cup each year.

Old Down Colts have Kwik Cricket, Under 11, Under 13, Under 15 and Under 17 squads who enter their own Youth League and feed players through to both the 2nd XI and 1st team. The Colts are run by Andy Kitchen 01454 617366 and Richard Panes 01454 618468.

The Club is always looking out for new players who can contact Secretary Andy Rowen on 01454 418157 or meet us at Net sessions on Wednesday evenings at The Park.

Playing or watching cricket at Old Down, particularly on a nice summer afternoon, is an absolute delight. The pine trees, the view over Tockington & Lower Almondsbury and the general peace of the cricket ground almost transport one back to a time when the village team was made up of local farm workers, blacksmith & publican over 150 years ago when this superb cricket club was first formed. A real piece of traditional rural England.

The Club is kindly sponsored by The Fox Inn Old Down, Linela Embroidery Olveston, and Old Down Country Park, Old Down.
